  • Time-outs don't "work" either but they 'work' as well as spanking and don't inflict physical pain on a child, so I'd much rather use them. I never had to "constantly" use time outs. Instead, I used my power as a parent to let my children know what was expected of them.

  • If you don't know what a parent is supposed to do, I feel sorry for you. I don't say "No no honey" like some whimpy parent who is afraid of their kid, who has no confidence in their power as a parent. I say "Do NOT throw that on the ground (while taking the delicate object away from them).

  • I'm not afraid to discipline. My kids wouldn't run around a Dr's office ever. They know that it's not allowed. That if they did, I would be unhappy with them. That they'd get a "Come here. Stop that right now. It is wrong to run around here like that.

  • Spanking is wrong because it is not necessary. Do children who are spanked always behave? Come on, everyone knows the answer to that. My children were never spanked. I never imposed any sort of traditional punishment.

  • I lost close to 50 pounds in six months and went as a 5 foot 6 inch woman in my late 40's from 184 to 135 with a change (a BIG change) in diet alone. I took an occassional walk and that was it.

  • My kids go to a Sleep Away Summer Camp in the Midwest. It is very common for kids to go for 4 weeks and not be able to talk at all by phone to their parents for the entire month unless there is an emergency.

  • My kids go away for 4 weeks and I am unable to see or talk to them during that time. It's ok, but it's hardly a "real life" experience. When exactly else in "real life' do you go a month and are unable to contact your kids by phone.

  • Does anyone remember the "He laughed at the joke' episode of the West Wing. I mean, it was all about how stupid the contraversy was....and yet here it is being played out in real life.That Aaron Sorkin was like a Fortune Teller or something.

  • I voted that the name should be changed, but not because it's "provocotive". "Freedom Tower" was just plain dopey! I like the idea of saying, you might have knocked it down, but we have the power to put it back up again! That's the real tribute to those who perished.
